Volunteers are vital to the work we do at Falcon. Without the kindness, skill, and dedication of our volunteers, we would not be where we are today.
People choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. For some, it offers the chance to give something back to the community. For others, it provides an opportunity to develop new skills. Regardless of motivation volunteering is always rewarding.
Whether you have 1 or 20 hours free, Falcon Support Services are always keen for more people to get involved. We offer a wide range of volunteering opportunities in Leicestershire, with projects running throughout the year.
If you have a specific skill you feel our service could benefit from that is not listed below, please contact us.

Falcon Support Services applied to the Innovation fund for £2000 to support with hire of the indoor football pitch and for equipment to ensure that not having boots or shin pads doesn’t act as a barrier for people who would otherwise not be able to afford them. They planned to create a borrowing bank of equipment that could be cleaned between sessions.
Feedback from Falcon
Our project idea started as part of our Harm Reduction and Peer Mentor program where we started having a kick around at the park. Lots of people started to get involved, this included those in our projects, people who seem us playing in the community and people who the Local Area Coordinator (LAC) brought along. This has helped those who have mental health issues, substance misuse issues, those in recovery looking for positive activities and we have some asylum seekers attending as well. We applied to the Turning Point National Innovation fund as we wanted to ensure this project continues throughout the colder months and conducting these sessions on a park is not ideal. We have also experienced people not having the foot ware to be able to play and wanted to create a boot bank so that this is not a barrier. Our aim was to set up a football team that we can put into local leagues, this will help people interrogate into the community and build confidence and skills.
Since receiving the fund being able to offer the correct footwear for these events has really given the service users a boost. The teams dedication and hard work has been amazing and we’ve had some significant improvements in fitness and reducing substances. The successes have been the amount of interest that we have had from service users to get involved in the football training. In the first three months of the project their had been 54 individual visits to the training sessions.
“Knowing I have this every week to come to helps me get motivated” Participant
One of the players approached us to become a volunteer which we were very pleased about, he is very motivated and will come and collect the equipment and ensure its at the location before training starts. He also ensures that everyone hands in their kits, boots and any other equipment. The service users work together to get the kit washed, boots steamed and put away ready for the next session.
“Being able to be offered a volunteer position since training with you all has been the highlight of my year already” – Volunteer
Rob Lowe, Turning Point Grants Manager also introduced us to a member of staff from the Football Association who has managed to get some training for those who would like to start refereeing which our volunteer jumped at the chance to do.
Through collaboration we have also worked in partnership with the FA and Turning point to bring together the Homeless Open opportunities Football League. We have created opportunities for those with lived experiences of homelessness and addiction, using the power of football to foster community and support.
