Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes
Your Own Place is an award-winning social enterprise with a mission to prevent homelessness and we believe everyone should have a safe and secure home. Everything we do starts with values, relationships, quality, impact and trust.
We run small, informal group workshops or one-to-one sessions within the community, exploring housing options, managing money, employability skills, and sustaining tenancies. We support people to identify their own solutions by building on existing knowledge, skills and confidence. Our workshops are interactive, hands-on and visually engaging, designed as an inclusive way to make remembering the topics/information discussed as easy as possible.

Your Own Place, funded by Colchester Borough Homes, is working with Emmaus and YMCA supported accommodation providers in Colchester to offer residents support with move on. Our focus is to support people to build the skills and confidence to manage their own tenancies, by working alongside people, building on the skills, knowledge and experience they already have. In particular, we focus on
- housing options, rights and responsibilities, tenancy sustainment skills
- money management skills and tools
- the cycle of debt, managing debt, finding support for unmanageable debt
- building confidence and resilience
- places to go for support
