The Upper Rooms
"providing individuals a safe environment, a warm meal, clothing and bedding."
The Upper Room has expanded from a small soup kitchen supporting people experiencing homelessness into a dynamic charity offering a range of services to address the immediate and longer term needs of its guests. Our Hub delivers a broad range of services. Not only do we offer practical support (meals, toiletries, clothing and bedding) but also specialist advice and support into employment. For more than 30 years we have provided a welcoming and safe environment where we support our guests to realise their potential, develop greater resilience and take positive steps towards a better future. The Upper Room is embedded in the local community and our teams of volunteers are integral in helping us to deliver our services.
“The Upper Room tends to the most basic needs – a hot meal, help to find warm and safe accommodation. But then it goes further, teaching ex-offenders to drive, an excellent route into employment. Or matching clients to worthwhile jobs.”
Andy Slaughter, MP for Hammersmith
The Upper Room has been helping socially disadvantaged people since 1990. We work with the homeless, ex-offenders and other socially disadvantaged people to improve their lives and conditions. We provide an environment which is welcoming, respectful and safe.
UR4Meals provides a warm and welcoming environment from which we serve hot, freshly made meals every weekday afternoon from 4 to 6 pm. Anyone can access this service with no questions asked, all year round. We typically see between 60 and 100 people each session, who can either sit inside or take their food away.
https://theupperroom.org.uk/volunteer/apply-to-be-a-volunteer/We have volunteering roles across the projects and would be delighted to hear from anyone who is interested in becoming more involved with The Upper Room as well as people with specialist skills, eg events management, fundraising, design, marketing or social media.
