The Nehemiah Project is an independent charity providing a home and support for adult men recovering from drug and alcohol addiction.
We believe that anyone can change their life with the right support and opportunity. Many men come to us having experienced homelessness, prison, loss or broken relationships. We offer a supportive, non-judgemental community where they can address their addiction, rebuild confidence and take responsibility for their future.
Recovery is about more than stopping drinking or using drugs. Our aim is to help men build lasting foundations for a life with health, a home, community and purpose.

Get in touchWhat We Do
If you are a man aged 18 or over looking for residential support to recover from drug and alcohol addiction, Nehemiah may be able to help.
We provide supported accommodation across six houses in South London. Our programme is abstinence-based, which means residents commit to living without alcohol or illicit drugs.
Your recovery starts with our structured 13-week programme, combining group work, one-to-one support and an approach informed by cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). You will explore the experiences and patterns behind your addiction, develop healthier ways of coping and make informed choices about your future.
Support continues beyond the initial programme through our move-on houses. We help residents develop independent living skills and find opportunities in education, training, volunteering and employment. We also support residents to build connections in the wider recovery community and, where appropriate, rebuild family relationships.
You can apply yourself or be referred by a professional supporting you. We welcome referrals from anywhere in the UK, including from the community and people preparing for release from prison.

Volunteers help make our houses welcoming homes and bring new skills, interests and connections into residents’ lives.
You might be able to help with gardening, practical projects, literacy or IT skills, or by sharing a skill through a workshop or activity.
If you would like to volunteer, visit our volunteering page to explore how your time and skills could support our work.
We also welcome connections with organisations offering education, training, volunteering or employment opportunities for residents.

Residents must be eligible to claim Housing Benefit and willing to engage with an abstinence-based residential programme. Other admissions criteria apply, and each application is assessed to establish whether we can meet the person’s needs.
