Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes
Man Alive Project understands the value of social connection and offers a varied programme of activities that enables men to socialise; to make friendships, and to create their own support networks.
Whether you’re into walking, outdoor swimming, cooking or would just like to get a bit more active, we’ve got friendly, fun sessions in the Holme Valley available for you.

We’re less than a year old, but this is what we’ve achieved already:
- Over 35 weekly guided walks, each a different route
- 6 months of Secret Saturday Swimmers. Different open-water swim locations around our area
- 5 months of Man Alive Mondays. Different activities each week such as sports, games, a Virtual Reality challenge, quiz's, cooking; even conkers!
- Established the Pan Man cookery programme attracting over a dozen new men to the project
- Established a competitive Fantasy Football League
- Running a Couch to 5K programme
- Residential at Castleton YHA with ridge walk, with another night away late February
- Organising monthly enhanced activities such as a Pool Sharks Tournament and a curry night
- Been involved in various charity fundraising events
- Secured funding from numerous sources to provide cookery-based, yoga & cycling programmes over the next 12 months, alongside what we are already doing
- Engaged with over 40 men
- Made strong connections with multiple agencies in the Kirklees area

We would love to hear from people happy to volunteer their time to help strengthen what Man Alive Project already does. If you could lead a walk, run a sports session or have an idea for an activity that other men might be interested in, then get in touch.
Our plan is for the project to develop through the skills, interests and vision of the people who come to the sessions. Who knows where that will take us!
Doing something for others helps you develop new skills, regain old ones, raises your self-esteem and helps you make connections with others. Sounds like a win for everybody!
