Outside Edge Theatre Company: East London Drop-in Drama & Write Now
"Free weekly drop-in groups in Drama & Creative Writing for adults affected by addiction."
Outside Edge Theatre Company (OETC) is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to addiction recovery through theatre and drama. We’ve been around since 1999, creating hard-hitting award-winning shows and running creative activities for people affected by addiction.
Drama and theatre aren’t just chances to unleash creativity. They dig deeper. People facing addiction can find themselves right at the edge of a precipice. Active participation in creative activities encourages people to take a step in a different direction and carve out a new narrative—to learn coping strategies, nurture healthier relationships, improve physical and mental health, and join a welcoming community. All while having fun.
We run FREE Drama & Creative Writing sessions every Tuesday in East London:
3:30pm-5:30pm - East London Drop-in Drama: Easy improvisation games, creating scenes and embodying characters.
6:30pm-8:30pm - East London Write Now: Through guided writing exercises, you’ll learn how to craft stories, develop dialogue and structure scripts.

Our main volunteer pathway involves our participants regularly attending our weekly groups, completing an intermediate module, and then being invited to become Peer Volunteers.
