Better Lives is the specialist drug and alcohol service for adults aged 18 and over living in Islington. The service provides free, confidential advice, treatment and recovery support for anyone experiencing problems with drugs or alcohol, as well as support for their families, carers and loved ones.

What support is available?
Better Lives offers a wide range of personalised support, including:
- Initial assessment and personalised care planning
- One-to-one support with a dedicated key worker
- Support to reduce or stop drug and alcohol use
- Physical health checks, blood-borne virus testing and liver health support
- Community alcohol detoxification
- Opiate substitute prescribing and relapse prevention medication
- Psychological therapies and counselling
- Recovery and wellbeing groups
- Women’s recovery groups
- Residential detoxification and rehabilitation referrals
- Housing, debt and welfare advice
- Education, training and employment support
- Relapse prevention and aftercare
- Family and carer support
Who can use this service?
The service is available to:
- Adults aged 18 years and over
- Residents of Islington
- Family members and carers who are affected by someone else’s drug or alcohol use
How to refer yourself
You do not need a GP referral.
You can refer yourself by:
- Calling the service
- Sending an email
- Attending one of the service’s drop-in referral sessions
- Completing the online self-referral via the Better Lives website
Referrals can also be made by a healthcare professional, support worker, family member or carer (with your consent).
