Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes
At Jigsaw Events we organise activities and events for people with learning disabilities. We aim to support adults living independently without access to or limited access to support. We are a small team of 3 trusted and skilled staff working hard to support attendance and participation. We have a small pool of experienced volunteers who support our activities and we are always keen to attract volunteers who have the right skill set to work with our members.
As might be expected as well as our core activities, we often provide advice and signposting, including identifying unmet social care needs.
We offer several regular activities each month, ensuring these enable social connection across our age ranges. We also organise two or three one-off or occasional activities in response to member interests. Recently we have been on a walk in the Malverns, attended an organ recital and held a stall at Sandwell Multicutural Day.
One monthly activity aims to be very low cost or no cost and offers the opportunity to explore local public transport routes, increasing travel skills, confidence and independence while reducing environmental impact.
Our members, who are people with learning disabilities, are our primary beneficiaries, but our work also expands the social networks of volunteers, increases access to outdoor activities and challenges perceptions within the wider community.

If you are an adult with learning disabilities and would like to 'join in', we would welcome an initial conversation so we can explain about how we work. The next stage is to complete an application form, and we will then arrange an informal meeting where you can find out more about what membership of Jigsaw entails.
We use Easy Read documents to list our activities and provide regular updates. At the moment we have activities planned until the end of 2026. You can attend as many or as few events as you'd like as long as we have spaces for that activity. We just ask you to contact us to book your place.
Once you are a member, we encourage suggestions from members and regularly seek ideas about places to visit and new experiences to explore.

If you have experience working with adults with learning disabilities or have experience supporting or promoting inclusive activities, we would love to talk to you. Our volunteers are there to offer 'light touch' support to members. Sometimes it might be helping someone pay their bill in a cafe or making sure someone knows which train we will be catching (and how to find the toilet on the train!).
Our volunteers regularly feedback about how our activities expand their own social calendar and how valuable it is to feel useful.
We don't require any regular commitment and there is no 'minimum' amount of time or number of activities. We just need to know that if you sign up to help at an event that you will be there.
Like our members, we have a straightforward application process – we require 2 referees and we will sort out a DBS check for you as we are sure you'd support our reasoning behind this.

We have just over 90 members ranging from early 20s to late 60s.
We don't need members to live in Sandwell where we are based but its important that members are able to access our activities - most are based in and around the Langley Lodge (B69 4SL) and we usually travel from local transport hubs such as Sandwell and Dudley Station , West Bromwich bus station or The Hawthorns metro stop.
