International Day of Persons with Disabilities is celebrated each year on 3rd December. A key objective of the day is to advocate for the importance of inclusion, both in life and the workplace.
The theme of this year’s event is ‘“Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.”
The theme this year reflects the current international political and policy context, in particular the Pact for the Future and the upcoming 2025 World Summit for Social Development, and the need to create momentum for achieving the 2030 Agenda. The theme seeks to amplify the centrality of the leadership role of persons with disabilities, in all of these efforts – from the global to the local.
We celebrate this day to appreciate the contributions which people with disabilities make to our societies, and also to express solidarity with them in their struggle to overcome the barriers and challenges which they still face, due to stigmatization and exclusion.
